Vestibular (inner ear) disorders can cause dizziness, vertigo, and/or balance difficulties in many individuals. The vestibular organs of the inner ear provide the brain with information about changes in head movement. When the system fails or is compromised, a person may experience vertigo, imbalance, visual deficits, hearing loss/deficit, nausea and/or dizziness. These symptoms can affect a person's quality of life as he or she may be unable to work, drive, socialize, or even get our of bed in the morning. Vestibular rehabilitation has been proven to be effective in the treatment for individuals who are experience varying degrees of “dizziness,” vertigo or imbalance.

When a person comes in for vestibular therapy, he or she will be evaluated by a therapist using a variety of special tests to determine the appropriate course of treatment. These tests include observations of eye movements, posture, balance, gait, motion sensitivity, etc... The therapist will then design an individualized treatment plan with the goal of retraining the brain to adapt and compensate for a compromised vestibular system.
